Podium Slab to First Floor

Atkin Trade Specialists delivered a Premier Inn in the heart of Southampton next to the ferry port. This six storey building provides 155 beds on the five upper floors with retail units on the ground floor.

Construction incorporated a concrete podium frame, built off displacement piles. The upper floors are Metsec Metframe constructions with holorib floors. Included in the metframe were the lifts and stairs that were built from the ground floor. The centre core stairwell was a spiral stairwell creating a feature for the building. The Metsec frame was built in 12 weeks, saving 3 weeks of the programme being constructed by only 4 men. Atkins provided a mobile tower crane that could reach all parts of the building to save time. The development achieved a BREEM 'Very Good' Rating.
